Music Festival is coming up very quickly! Please read the note below!

Here is the note that everyone in 6-8th grade needs to read and send back the permission slip on Thursday, February 11th! If your student did not bring home the permission slip, let me know as soon as possible!

February 9, 2010
Dear Parents-
Every year the upper grade students have the opportunity to go to the Lutheran Schools Music Festival. This is a required event that includes all of the 6th, 7th and 8th grade students. At this festival, the band, handbells, and choir are judged based on their knowledge in those musical areas. It is a great chance for the students to get compliments and critiques from someone other than myself. They also get to hear other bands, choirs and handbells of the same age group. Each group is pumped up and ready to perform this year. We are all very excited. Below is all the necessary information needed to make this festival successful!
The Festival is Thursday, February 25th, 2010
This year the festival will take place at Trinity, Utica.
A map will be provided to the drivers the day of the festival with the driving directions to the School.
Start times are as follows:
7:45: Leave for Trinity, Utica
8:45: 7th grade handbells perform
9:00: 8th grade handbells perform
9:40: Advanced Band performs
10:30: Jonah’s Wailers Choir performs
11:00: Return home

We need to leave school by 7:45 am. Please make sure that we are all leaving at approximately the same time, so that equipment arrives together.
We are going to need 12-14 parent drivers for this trip. Please make sure that you are on the approved driver list located in the school office. I need to have all drivers squared away by Wednesday, February 17th, so that I can assign students to the cars.
This is a field trip. A signed permission slip is needed to attend this festival. Please remember that this is a required event for every student in 6th-8th grade. Please sign and return the note on the back side of this letter and return it to Mrs. Scheiderer by Thursday, February 11th, 2010.
Thank you,
In Christ,

Mrs. Heidi A. Scheiderer

SOOOO SORRY ADVANCED BAND!!!

I just wanted to put this up and say that if you have looked at fast direct in the last two or three days and saw your students grades, and they seemed so low, it was because I lost approximately 3 sets of practice cards!! AHH. I did find them, and I updated the grades. Please look to see if you student is all caught up before report cards come out!

Thanks
Mrs. S

The time is drawing near....

For those who are still confused about the two different Christmas events taking place:
December 9th-6:30 Band and Handbell Concert. In the gym. Students report at 6:00.
December 16th- 6:30 Christmas Play- In the Sanctuary. All students report at 6:00.
A letter will be sent home tomorrow with all needed information! The letter will also be posted on my blog!

Primary Praise- We learned our gospel moves to our song today. Once we had all the students swaying in the same direction, we looked and sounded pretty nice! Glory Glory! Glory Hallelu!

Jonah's- Are singing in church this Sunday December 6th, at the 8:00 am service. (Along with the 8th grade bell choir) Bells be here at 7:20 and choir be here at 7:40.

Beginning Band- Jingle bells, Up on the housetop and Jolly old st. nick are coming along. We can't wait to perform for the first time!

Advanced Band- Take the time this weekend to really study and rehearse your music. PLEASE! Every instrument should be off that rack today and taken home!

7th grade bells- This is our last scheduled rehearsal before we play on the 9th. I am thinking that Mr. B is going to have to give something up for us to rehearse again next week! :)

Kazoos are cool!

What is the one thing that you don't want to do when you have a massive headache? Listen to anything, is the answer!! But...

Advanced Band had a writing assignment today, in class. They were to be video taped playing their Christmas songs, and then they had to analyze themselves playing. I had many students tell me that we sounded like a beginning band, not an advanced band. Gee... I wonder how we can make that better! Funny... the instrument rack here at school is still very full of instruments, even tho they have a concert next Wednesday!

Beginning Band, who sounds more like an advanced beginning band is doing very well on their songs for the concert on the 9th. I can tell that they are each practicing really hard and when we come together to play as a group, each person takes their own tempo, and we have a discombobulated mess! Once we played through it a couple times, we sounded pretty good! They only have two more rehearsals until next Wednesday's concert! (ps. our kazoos for the Dec. 16th play are coming along nicely!)

3rd graders took their final piano test today. Hopefully everyone got a 100%! Look for that test to come home next Wednesday!

8th grade bells seem to think that next week s concert is farther away than it is! We had a few issues today, but to Nick and Kody........rock on gentlemen! You both have never played so well! :) David, you are still on my list...

It's December?

Where did the time go???

NOTICE THIS CHANGE!!!!! On December 16th, we are having our Christmas program at 6:30-NOT at 7:00! Due to support help with the music, we needed to move the time! So please mark that on your calendars. Look for a note to go home from Mr. Kennedy and myself indicating the changes!

K, 1, 2 all used their music time wisely to sing their songs for the up coming Christmas program on the 16th. I am so excited for this afternoons rehearsal to see how it all starts to come together!

We had advanced band today instead of choir. Jonah's are singing in church this Sunday at 8:00, along with 8th grade bells, but they are ready with "Looking for the Light". Band needs more rehearsal time for their up coming December 9th concert.

6th grade bells are playing in chapel next Wednesday, if you want to come and here them-pre concert ready :) you are welcome to!

Good News choir is SO ready for the Christmas Program! Most of them have everything memorized! Way to go 3rd, 4th and 5th graders!! 5th grade band members also tried their kazoos during our song today and I think it went very well!!

Our first all school Christmas program practice was today, and I think it went very well for our first time! We made it over half way through and The Kings of Swing, was AWESOME!! Way to go swingettes and rappers!! :O)
